Gary Ford Gary Ford, CPA Managing Partner, Audit Partner

Gary Ford is a managing partner and an audit partner at Axley & Rode, LLP. He has been with the firm for more than 34 years, and he has served as a partner in the audit department for more than 23 years. His area of specialty is attestation, assurance, and taxation for commercial and financial entities.

Mr. Ford earned a B.B.A. in Accounting from Stephen F. Austin State University.

Mr. Ford serves as treasurer and committeeman for the Angelina Go Texan Committee, and he is a member of the Lufkin Noon Lions Club. He has been involved in volunteering for youth livestock activities, cemetery associations, youth baseball, and the Cub Scouts.

Molly Abele Molly Abele, CPA Audit Partner

Molly Abele is a CPA and an audit partner at Axley & Rode, LLP. She has been with the firm for 14 years, and has served as Senior Audit Manager, Audit Manager, Senior Auditor and Staff Auditor. Mrs. Abele specializes in governmental and non-profit accounting and auditing, which includes federal and state compliance audits.

Mrs. Abele graduated from Lovelady High School before earning her B.B.A. in accounting from Sam Houston State University.

Mrs. Abele volunteers for several organizations in which her children participate, including Hudson Diamond Sports and the Hudson Youth Basketball Association. She is a member of the Lufkin Young Professionals Network and the Friends of Ellen Trout Zoo.

Eric Carver Eric Carver, P.C., CPA Audit Partner, Audit Director, Audit Quality Control Director

Eric Carver is Director of the Assurance Services Department and the Director of Assurance Quality Control at Axley & Rode, LLP. He has been with the firm for almost 20 years, and has progressed from associate, senior and manager roles to a partner role. Mr. Carver specializes in Governmental and Non-Profit auditing with an emphasis on federal and state compliance.

Mr. Carver earned a B.B.A. in Accounting from Stephen F. Austin State University, and he is a Licensed Certified Public Accountant in Texas and Arkansas. He is an associate member of the Governmental Finance Officers Association, an associate member of the Texas Municipal League, and an associate member of the Texas Association of School Business Officials.

Mr. Carver is a member of the Immaculate Conception Church of Moral. He is past president and treasurer of the Christ Episcopal School Board, a Leadership Nacogdoches alumnus, a member of the SFA Alumni Association and a member of the Angelina and Nacogdoches Chambers of Commerce.

Justin Matthews Justin Matthews, CPA Audit Partner, Recruiting

Justin Matthews is a CPA and an audit partner with Axley & Rode, LLP. He has been with the firm for more than 11 years and specializes in audits of employee benefit plans and school districts.

Mr. Matthews joined the firm as a part-time tax accountant while attending college and became a full-time audit associate after graduation. He served as audit senior and audit manager before becoming audit partner.

Mr. Matthews earned a B.B.A. and a Master of Professional Accountancy from Stephen F. Austin State University. He is a member of the Friends of Ellen Trout Zoo and The Museum of East Texas.

Tony McGowen Tony McGowen, P.C., CPA Audit Partner

Tony McGowen has been a partner at Axley & Rode, LLP for more than 23 years. He served as auditor for 11 years, and he specializes in auditing employee benefit plans, as well as audit and tax services for construction companies and financial institutions.

Mr. McGowen graduated from James Bowie High School in Simms, Texas and earned a B.B.A. from Stephen F. Austin State University. He attends Sacred Heart Catholic Church, where he serves as finance council chairman.

Matt Broyles Matt Broyles, CPA Tax Partner

Matt Broyles is a CPA and a partner at Axley & Rode, LLP. He specializes in income and estate tax, accounting services, QuickBooks consulting, tax planning and income and sales tax audit assistance. He has been with the tax department for more than seven years, working his way up from intern an intern position.

M. Craig Corley is a tax partner at Axley & Rode, LLP. He has been with the firm for more than eight years and has serves as Senior Tax Manager, Tax Manager, Tax Senior and Tax Associate. His specialty is tax and business services.

Jackson Garvey J. Garvey Jackson, P.C., CPA Tax Partner

Garvey Jackson is a CPA and the resident managing partner of the Axley & Rode, LLP Livingston office.  As a tax partner, he specialized in individual, partnership, corporate, and estate and trust taxation.

Mr. Jackson joined Axley & Rode in 1981 and became a partner in 1983. He has served on the Executive Committee, the Strategic Planning Committee, the Compensation Committee, and the Recruiting and Retention Committee. He is a graduate of Livingston High School and earned his B.B.A. in accounting from the University of Houston.

Mr. Jackson is a member of the First United Methodist Church of Livingston, member and former President of the Livingston Lions Club, former Chairman of the Deep East Texas Workforce Board, board member of Texas Association of Workforce Boards, treasurer of the Polk County Higher Education and Technology Foundation, board member of the Texas Forest Country Partnership and member of the Polk County Chamber of Commerce.

Robert Lindsey is a tax partner at Axley & Rode, LLP, specializing in estate and gift taxes, as well as individual and business taxes. He has been with the firm since 1989.

Mr. Lindsey was valedictorian of his graduating class at San Augustine High School before he earned his B.B.A. in accounting from Stephen F. Austin State University.

Kim Smith is a CPA and has been a tax partner with Axley & Rode, LLP since 2009. She has been with the firm since 2000 and specializes in individual, business, gift, Texas franchise, trust and estate tax services.

Mrs. Smith earned a B.B.A. in accounting from Stephen F. Austin State University, graduating Magna Cum Laude in 1999.

Mrs. Smith is treasurer of the Nacogdoches High School varsity tennis team and the Wellington Pointe Owners Association. She is a graduate of the 2007-2008 Leadership Nacogdoches class.

Lee Smith Lee Smith, P.C., CPA Tax Partner, IT Director

Lee Smith is a CPA and serves as partner and director of IT for Axley & Rode, LLP. He has been with the firm since 1986, serving as staff accountant before becoming partner in 2001. He specializes in individual and business tax issues.

Mr. Smith earned a B.B.A. from Stephen F. Austin State University. He is a member of the Texas Society of CPA, AICPA and the Beta Gamma Sigma Honor Society.

He has served as chair and treasurer of the Nacogdoches Chamber of Commerce executive committee, treasurer of the Nacogdoches Dragons Athletic Booster Club, treasurer of the East Texas Area Foundation and co-president of the Nettie Marshall Elementary PTA. He has also served on the SFA Accounting Advisory Committee.

Mrs. Sunda joined the firm as a part-time college student and joined the firm full-time after graduation. She is a CPA and earned a B.B.A. magna cum laude and a Master of Professional Accountancy from Stephen F. Austin State University. She is a member of the Texas Society of Certified Public Accountants and the AICPA.

Mrs. Sunda is a member of Grace Bible Church in Nacogdoches. She is treasurer of the Nacogdoches County Chamber of Commerce, treasurer of the Nacogdoches County Community Partnership (The Rainbow Room) and is president-elect of the Fredonia Rotary Club. She is a Leadership Nacogdoches alumna.

Rhonda Wells Rhonda S. Wells, CPA Tax Partner, Tax Quality Control Director

Rhonda S. Wells is a CPA. She has been with Axley & Rode LLP since 1997 and became a partner in 2005. She specializes in tax issues.

She graduated from Livingston High School and earned B.B.A. in accounting from Texas A&M. She earned her CPA certification in 1997.

Prior to joining Axley & Rode, Ms. Wells worked for the Office of Comptroller of Currency as a bank examiner for several years.
